ABOUT VENIE

Venie Tee (1978) is an illustrator who focuses on figurative, fashion and animal illustrations.

Her artwork is deeply inspired by fairytales and folklores, and believes that they were—and continue to be—the gateway to her creativity while growing up. Books have always been her source of comfort and her “crazy ideas” are usually conjured by them.

While Venie has always been expressing herself through art—drawing on walls when paper could no longer contain her imagination—it was a meeting with her mother’s art-loving friend that fuelled her interest in the subject.

Venie obtained her degree in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London, and discovered her love for fashion there. Upon returning to Malaysia, she pursued an Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design at Raffles College of Higher Education, and subsequently worked as a fashion designer. She returned to drawing in 2015 and has since exhibited her illustrations in London, New York and Munich.

As an artist with a background in fine art and fashion, Venie enjoys blending different mediums to create her artwork, and continues to explore different techniques.

She currently produces custom painting for clients while working towards her MA in Illustration at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Venie hopes to work in art education and share her skills and experiences in fashion design and illustration.
